Birds of America: Rare Prints by John James Audubon
|
5/17/2012 -
8/12/2012
One of the most significant and rare books in American history is coming to the MMAM. During his career, adventurous artistic and scientific genius John James Audubon depicted almost 500 of the approximate 700 regularly occurring bird species in America in theatrical detail. To experience Audubon’s ambitious masterpiece Birds of America is a rare treat indeed and, it is an important treasure of our region, coming to the Museum thanks to the Minneapolis Athenaeum / Hennepin County Library Special Collections. Because of the extreme rarity and fragility of these original volumes of Birds of America, Museum staff will perform a weekly page turning, so repeat visitors can experience many of the originals.
